TADIRAN batteries power many types of automotive applications
Tadiran batteries and battery packs power a wide variety of automotive applications, including air bag systems, emergency notification (eCall) systems, asset tracking devices, brake and engine controllers, tire pressure monitoring systems, electronic toll tags, and much more. Our batteries are UL recognized, and approved for lead-free RoHS, WEEE EC, and REACH directives. Here are some highlighted examples:
eCall emergency notification systems- TLM Series lithium metal oxide batteries were chosen by Actia to provide emergency power for their ACU‐II (second generation Automotive Communications Unit). This device incorporates eCall to detect serious accidents and then automatically contacts emergency first responders with the car’s exact location, direction of travel, and number of passengers to speed emergency response. The ACU‐II unit also tracks vehicle location, remotely operates door locks, and controls heating and air conditioning using a smartphone app. Tadiran TLM Series batteries are ideally suited for this application because they are powerful and robust, offer very low annual self-discharge, and feature an incredibly wide temperature range, making them perfect for powering in‐vehicle electronics systems. TLI Series industrial grade rechargeable Li-ion batteries are also being used for eCall applications because they can generate high rate power along with their ability to be recharged and discharged at extremely low temperatures.
Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems – Tadiran’s XOL and iXtra batteries are chosen for tire pressure monitoring systems due to their ruggedness and temperature stability. For example, these batteries are used in Formula 1 racing cars to transmit tire pressure and temperature data.
Electronic Toll tags – Currently used in over 100 million electronic toll collection transponders, Tadiran bobbin-type LiSOCl2 batteries are trusted by leading toll tag manufacturers to operate reliably in extreme environments.
Electronic toll tag RFID transponders are typically mounted on automotive windshields where they must be able to handle severe heat soak as a parked vehicle can reach 112°C (according to SAE), cooling down rapidly to room temperature. Conversely, in Winter weather, the battery must withstand extreme cold soak followed by a rapid rise in temperature. Tadiran bobbin-type LiSOCl2 batteries are preferred for their unmatched temperature range (-55°C to +125°C). These cells are also hermetically sealed vs. crimped seals that are prone to leaking during extreme temperature cycling.

These batteries are also used to track vehicle location, remotely operate certain features using a smartphone app. TLM Series batteries are ideal for in-vehicle electronics for being powerful and robust, with very low annual self-discharge and the ability to handle extreme temperatures.

Tadiran bobbin-type LiSOCl2 batteries are used in leading electronic toll collection systems because they can handle severe temperature cycles common to car interiors, where heat soak can hit 113°C (according to SAE) when parked, cooling down rapidly to room temperature. In frigid weather, the same battery must be able to handle cold soak and a rapid temperature rise. These hermetically sealed cells are far superior to non-hermetically sealed cells prone to leakage.
